Sanya Malhotra responds to criticism of her film ‘Mrs.’
The actor said the backlash comes from showing reality on screen
The actor Sanya Malhotra was unfazed by the criticism of her film Mrs. from a number of men's organisations, including the Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF), which claimed that it promoted a biassed feminist narrative. She said that the film's portrayal of reality was the cause of the backlash.
During a CNN-News18 SheShakti 2025 session, Sanya discussed the film's criticism from men's rights organisations, which said it contains "toxic feminism."
She revealed that the film was frequently criticised for depicting the actual situation of women in some households, where they are not even permitted to work.
Sanya said, "The problem isn’t that she didn’t want to cook. She was cooking, even serving it nicely, but getting zero appreciation from the family. The problem started when she wanted to do something else and showed the family that she is capable of managing the household and wants to go out and pursue something she loves. But she wasn’t allowed to do that, she wasn’t given the freedom.”
The Dangal actor added, “The problem started when she wanted to do something else and showed the family that she is capable of managing the household and also wants to go out and pursue something she loves. But she wasn’t allowed to do that, she wasn’t given the freedom. The story has reached the people it needed to reach.”
