YRF offers compensation after ‘War 2’ flops in Telugu states
YRF faces big setback as ‘War 2’ tanks at the Telugu box office
Yash Raj Films' problems appear to be far from over, as evidenced by the poor box office performance of their most recent release, War 2.
The film's poor box office performance may result in financial losses for the production company.
According to a recent report, Telugu distributor and filmmaker Naga Vamsi, who lost money after acquiring the film's distribution rights in the Telugu states, has received an offer of ₹22 crore from YRF.
Because of the combined star power of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, War 2 was predicted to perform well in both the Hindi and Telugu versions.
However, given its ₹400 crore landing cost, the movie has only just made over ₹200 crore at the domestic box office in its first week. It's a sad situation that the Telugu version has only made ₹52 crore net so far and is now making less than ₹1 crore every day.
According to Great Andhra, Naga Vamsi and his associates, who allegedly paid ₹80 crore for the Telugu distribution rights for War 2, have been offered ₹22 crore by YRF as compensation for this poor performance.
The final amount may only be slightly more than half of the ₹100 crore the producer had anticipated from the Telugu states. The report states that the compensation is set at ₹10 crore for Nizam, ₹7 crore for Andhra, and ₹5 crore for Ceded regions.
YRF had hoped for a pan-India blockbuster, but War 2 has fallen short. The Telugu version of the Ayan Mukerji movie has been dubbed a disaster, while the Hindi version has done a little better, grossing over ₹150 crore in India. War 2 hasn't done well abroad either. It has so far made about ₹300 crore worldwide. The broader YRF Spy Universe includes War 2. Kiara Advani plays the lead role in the movie as well.
