Jr. NTR’s next spy film hits snag after ‘War 2’ failure
Telugu superstar Jr. NTR reportedly parts ways with YRF
Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s War 2 had a weak buzz upon release and failed to gain momentum at the box office.
The film has now turned out to be a huge flop.
Following this box office disaster, the makers of the action drama were compelled to take some difficult decisions, including paying Rs. 22 crore to producer Naga Vamsi.
Reports suggest that the Telugu superstar had come on board only after being promised a solo spy film, but with War 2’s failure, the chances of a standalone Agent Vikram film have diminished.
A source close to the production house revealed: "YRF had ambitious plans to capitalize on the pan India popularity of Jr. NTR and create a spin off based on the character of Agent Vikram.
The creative team at YRF was already developing a standalone film, but the failure of this spy thriller has halted the entire process."
The source further added: "An Agent Vikram film is no longer a feasible move, and Aditya Chopra has conveyed the same to Jr. NTR. The ‘Man of Masses’ also agreed with Adi’s point of view and has parted ways with the banner on a very healthy note. He will no longer be a part of the Spy Universe."
War 2 was expected to perform strongly in both Hindi and Telugu versions due to the combined star power of the two actors.
However, it has barely managed to cross Rs. 200 crore at the domestic box office in its first week.
