Karan Johar's film Rocky Aur Rani kii Prem Kahaani won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

It's interesting to note that he received the same honour for his 1998 directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

In an interview with Mirchi Plus, actor Janhvi Kapoor emphasised how Karan has changed as a director over time.

Janhvi and co-star Sidharth Malhotra discussed their favourite romantic comedies during the interview.

They continued by discussing how Saathiya, directed by Mani Ratnam, is a toxic love story in many respects.

In this concern, she said, “It is also interesting to see how filmmakers have evolved with society. I think that Karan [Johar] is a great example."

She went on to explain her point further and added, "If you look back at Kuch Kuch Hota Hai… of course, it was iconic, but phir jaake jab unhone Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani banayi (then he went on to make this film), there you can see that he is a very evolved feminist. I think that is a true sign of an artist.”

Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji were the main actors in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The movie received accolades for its novel on-screen duo and soundtrack. Nevertheless, a lot of people have seen the movie again and criticised it for its problematic presentation of gender stereotypes over the years.
