Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika face legal heat over Hyundai endorsement
A Rajasthan court case links stars and officials to a car complaint
Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, as well as six Hyundai officials, have been charged with fraud in connection with a car that allegedly had manufacturing flaws.
As brand ambassadors, both actors are connected to the automaker.
The FIR was filed in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, according to Bhaskar English. The case started when a local resident filed a complaint, claiming that within a few months of buying his Hyundai Alcazar SUV in 2022, it started to exhibit serious technical problems. He also claimed that the business ignored or did not fix the issues in spite of numerous follow-ups.
In his complaint, Kirti Singh, a resident of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, claimed to have paid more than ₹23 lakh for a Hyundai vehicle.
Singh filed a lawsuit after the police first refused to file his complaint. Following court orders, the Mathura Gate police station filed the case on August 25 in accordance with sections 312, 318, 316, 61, and 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 420, 406, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.
Singh named Managing Director Anso Kim (registered office Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu), COO Tarun Garg (corporate office Gurugram, Haryana), Malwa Auto Sales Pvt. Ltd. MD Nitin Sharma, and Director Priyanka Sharma (Sonipat, Haryana) as the top executives of Hyundai Motor India in his petition before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bharatpur.
Additionally, he named Shah Rukh and Deepika as accused of promoting and endorsing the brand. He claimed that the both were guilty of deceiving customers by endorsing a faulty product.
