Sumona Chakravarti, a TV actor, recently talked about her terrifying experience during the ongoing Maratha quota protests in South Mumbai.

The actor expressed her fear and frustration during Sunday's protest in a lengthy statement that she shared on social media.

In a lengthy letter, Sumona described how, at approximately 12:30 PM on Sunday, August 31, while travelling from Colaba to Fort, her vehicle was unexpectedly surrounded by demonstrators.

On the third day of the massive protest at Azad Maidan, which was led by Manoj Jarange, thousands of people were calling for a 10% OBC reservation for Marathas.

Sumona described how some shouted "Jai Maharashtra" and hit on her car's windows, while another man smirked, slammed his belly against her car, and banged on the bonnet.

A few minutes later, the same thing happened again. Even in the well-known streets of South Mumbai, where she has always felt safe, she talked about feeling unsafe.

She was discouraged to see police sitting around, chatting, and doing nothing to control the situation, even though she eventually noticed them.

She called it a "complete mockery of civic sense" and said the roads were covered in trash, plastic bottles, and banana peels. Sumona acknowledged she was glad to have a male friend with her, but she was especially worried about how vulnerable she would have felt if she had been by herself. She was tempted to record the incident but decided against it out of concern that it would incite the mob even more.
