Soni Razdan reflects on career struggles following marriage to Mahesh Bhatt
Veteran actress Soni Razdan recalls how marriage slowed her Bollywood career unexpectedly
British actress Soni Razdan candidly talked about the struggle of losing work post-marriage, and how female actors were unfairly marginalised.
During candid discussion, the mother of two revealed that despite her early career success, her opportunities abruptly slowed after she married to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in 1986.
In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, the 68-year-old actress confessed, “I was thriving as an actress, and then suddenly, I wasn’t getting work. People said, ‘Why does she need to work now?’”
Furthermore, she disclosed that her career took a turn with the television series Buniyaad, which reminded the industry of her immense talent.
Additionally, Soni acknowledged that societal perceptions often overshadowed her individual achievements.
“All my life, even now, I’m somebody else’s somebody. My struggle is still to be recognized for who I am,” she said candidly.
Moreover, she expressed gratitude that actresses no longer face a choice between on-screen success and personal life, stating, “Women today can live fully, pursue their passions, and be authentic. That wasn’t possible before. Now it has changed, and it’s empowering.”
For the unversed, Soni recently starred in Danish Renzu's film Songs Of Paradise, which earned over 304.7 crore worldwide, alongside Saba Azad, Zain Khan Durrani and Sheeba Chaddha.
The movie displayed the life of legendary Kashmiri singer Raj Beghum.
