Sonu Nigam's iconic number found its way into a film after 26 years
Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is all set to hit theatres on September 12, 2025.
The makers of the film recently unveiled its most anticipated song, Bijuriya, a remake of the 1999 hit originally sung by Sonu Nigam.
The release sparked nostalgia among film buffs, many of whom showered love on the legendary singer’s iconic number.
Originally part of his third non-film album, Mausam, the track was a deliberate attempt at pure pop.
Now, after more than two decades, it has finally found its way into a Bollywood film.
While Sonu Nigam has never opposed the remaking of hit songs, he has always emphasised that the original creators should be treated with respect.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, the 52-year-old musician said, “Remakes, if done with respect and regard for the original creators, are not a bad thing at all.
Sometimes remakes spoil a song, but a lot of times they bring old melodies back and create nostalgia for people who grew up with them,” he added.
The Dil Dooba singer also recalled how he discovered legends like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra through reimagined versions of their music.
For the uninitiated, at the time of its release, Bijuriya was not only admired for its sound and vibe, but its music video, featuring Sonu as a ghost, captured the imagination of young audiences in the late ’90s.
