Atif Aslam faced severe backlash for performing at a concert
Singer Atif Aslam has finally broken his silence after facing heavy criticism for performing at a concert the day after his father’s death.
Notably, after prolonged illness, the 42-year-old artist’s father, Muhammad Aslam, died on August 12.
He attended the last rites of his father in Lahore, and in less than 24 hours, he landed in Karachi to be on stage at a concert arranged by the Government of Sindh to commemorate Independence Day.
This sparked a debate on social media, with many netizens questioning his bond with his father and way of mourning, while others praised his commitment to work
Despite facing brutal trolling, the Tere Bin vocalist had previously chosen to remain silent and abstained from issuing any clarification.
However, recently in a candid interview with Indian journalist Faridoon Sheheryar, the Aadat singer shared his perspective.
Atif said, “I hear people talking and saying, ‘There is a death in his home, and he is performing the next day.’ At the expense of something bad happening at my home, they are running their channels and questioning whether I should go or not.”
He added, “My job is not to tell them, ‘Don’t do this.’ I cannot maintain rishte dari with the whole world; I cannot explain my situation to everyone. My job is to create art. Love me or hate me for my art and my music, but don’t tell me what to do.”
After the singer presented his point of view, some appreciated him for his professionalism, but the majority of social media users continued to criticise him, calling him insensitive.
