Boney Kapoor opens up on how misunderstandings with filmmaker Rajamouli affected Sridevi’s role
Boney Kapoor has finally broken his silence about why his late wife Sridevi couldn’t be part of Baahubali, hinting at a behind-the-scenes misunderstanding.
In a recent interview, the 69-year-old film producer shared that he still has a message from S. S. Rajamouli which reads, "he was a fan of Sridevi as an actor."
Speaking on the YouTube show Game Changers, Boney revealed that the decision had nothing to do with Sridevi being difficult. In fact, Rajamouli admired her even more after discussing the script with her.
Boney said the real hurdle was the producers who offered Sridevi less than her English Vinglish fee after Rajamouli stepped out. This happened despite her immense value across Hindi and Tamil cinema.
“They didn’t tell Rajamouli the truth,” Boney explained. “Instead, they fed him false stories, making it look like Sridevi was unprofessional. That was completely wrong.”
Furthermore, he mentioned, the industry's well-known filmmakers such as Yash Chopra, Rakesh Roshan, and Raghavendra Rao consistently worked with the late star, which ultimately proved the trust and respect they had for his wife.
“She deserved honesty. If they couldn’t pay, they could have simply said so,” he added.
Notably, the legendary actress didn’t become part of the much-loved movie Baahubali, but it still turned out to be a massive box-office hit, grossing over ₹600 crore globally in it's initial day's of premiere.
