Ashish Kapoor sent to 14-day judicial custody in rape case
Complaint alleges spiked drink and assault; police seek evidence
After being questioned by police, actor Ashish Kapoor was placed under 14 days of judicial custody on Saturday by Delhi's Tis Hazari Court.
He was produced in front of Payal Singhal, Link Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC). Ashish was taken into custody in Pune on September 2nd in relation to a gang rape case that was filed after a woman filed a complaint.
August 11 saw the filing of a formal complaint under the appropriate sections, alleging rape, gang rape, causing harm, and other offences.
In the complaint, the woman claimed that her drink was tampered with after being invited to a party in Ashish's neighbourhood. She claimed she was dragged to a loo and gang raped after losing consciousness.
According to the police, after initially naming other people, the woman changed her statement to only accuse Ashish of rape.
The Delhi Police had filed an application for a 5-day custody remand after his arrest to investigate the case, recover the cell phone, and test the accused's capacity. The application also aimed to transport the accused to Pune, Maharashtra, and investigate their roles.
