Abhishek Bachchan moved the Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights by seeking a ban on the unauthorised use of his name, image, voice, and performances across digital platforms.

In his petition, the 49-year-old actor alleged that multiple online platforms have been misappropriating his persona by creating and circulating unauthorised content, including merchandise, wallpapers, and videos bearing his image.

He pleaded with the court to restrict websites, YouTube channels, and online sellers from commercially exploiting his likeness through merchandise, wallpapers, videos, and even AI-generated content and deepfakes.

The matter came up before Justice Tejas Karia on Wednesday.

The judge observed that any takedown order against online content would have to be specific and platform-wise.

“We can ask Google to take down, but you have to give a URL specific to each other. If you can identify the platform, it can be easily done.”

The Delhi-6 star’s counsel assured the court that the necessary details and URLs would be provided later in the day.

Notably, the matter was heard a day after Justice Karia considered a similar plea filed by Bachchan’s wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who also approached the High Court seeking protection of her personality rights against online misuse.

The court has listed Abhishek Bachchan’s case for further hearing on January 15, 2026.

These growing concerns among celebrities about the misuse of their digital identities, particularly with the rise of AI-generated and deep fake content, and the urgent need for legal safeguards to protect publicity and personality rights in the online era.
