Rajasthan HC stays FIR against Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone in hyundai car endorsement case
The Rajasthan High Court has granted interim relief to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone by staying an FIR that linked them to alleged defects in a Hyundai vehicle
The Rajasthan High Court has granted Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone significant relief by halting a formal complaint filed against them in Bharatpur. A local car owner who claimed that Hyundai Motors had sold him a faulty vehicle filed the complaint.
The FIR, which was filed a few days ago, accused the two actors and six other company officials of deceiving consumers by posing as Hyundai brand ambassadors.
Shah Rukh and Deepika both petitioned the Rajasthan High Court to have the FIR quashed. Their legal teams maintained that they were not involved in the technical operations of the company and that their role as brand ambassadors was restricted to promoting the company's products.
Speaking on actor’s behalf, senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that it was unjust to include the actor in the case because he had no direct connection to the calibre of Hyundai's vehicles.
Deepika lawyer, Madhav Mitra, echoed these claims, saying that she cannot be held responsible for purported manufacturing flaws.
Justice Sudesh Bansal noted during the Jodhpur hearing that the FIR lacked a factual foundation. After that, the court granted actors and company officials temporary relief by ordering a stay on the FIR.
The date of the upcoming hearing is set for September 25.
The case started when a resident of Bharatpur filed a complaint alleging that Hyundai Motors had sold him a car that was technically flawed, causing him to suffer financial losses. The FIR claimed that the duo was also accountable for deceiving consumers because they promoted the brand.
