Vivek Oberoi clarified his relationship with cousin Akshay Oberoi after recent remarks sparked speculation.

 This confession shortly came, when Akshay the nephew of veteran actor Suresh Oberoi recently revealed he has “no real relationship” with Vivek.

The actor turned businessman didn’t hold back in responding to the claims. 

In conversation with Hindustan Times, he said, “I did ask him myself what happened, and what is this interview about? He said ‘no, it’s been misinterpreted,’ but best that he speaks for himself. As far as I’m concerned, I love Akshay and I am very proud of what he has done.”

As per outlet, the 49-year-old star added, “As a family, we are always there at each other’s birthdays. They always come to our house on Diwali or my parents’ anniversary. So, we have a lot of celebrations together, and we have some great memories of growing up together.” 

Furthermore, he also praised him for carving his own path in the industry, stating,“Every bit of success and acclaim that he has is well deserved because he is the only one responsible for it. 

It shouldn’t be because of whose nephew or cousin you are it should be based on pure merit. And Akshay has achieved everything on his own merit, and I am very proud of it.” 

For the unversed, in a previous interview with the Free Press Journal, the Hum Tum and Them star stated that nobody, not even casting directors, knew they were related and that he never used the connection to his advantage. 

Akshay told that, rather than pride, he felt sadness over the lack of a real relationship and simply chose to pursue his career independently.
