Ileana D’Cruz reveals nearly quitting Barfi after a heated clash with director Anurag Basu
Ileana D’Cruz candidly shared a behind-the-scenes story from one of her most breakthrough movie Barfi that almost made her walk away from the film.
During an interview, the 38-year-old actress, co-starring with Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, admitted this decision was prompted after an unforeseen conflict with director Anurag Basu.
In conversation with NDTV, she stated, “One morning, I walked onto the set, happy and excited, and he was in a really bad mood. Something ticked him off, and he lashed out at me."
She said she felt insulted by the incident and notified to the filmmaker that she would leave the project if he wasn’t satisfied with her performance.
Talking about the reconciliation, she added,“So, I got ready, had my makeup done, and then Dada came back. He’s the only one who ever called me ‘Ilu,’ which I normally don’t allow. He simply said I walked in at a bad time, not to take it seriously."
For the unversed, the film hit theaters thirteen years ago grossed over ₹124 million and was produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur.
The movie's storyline center's around the life of lead Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor), a deaf-mute man, and the special bonds he shares with Shruti (Ileana) and Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra), who is autistic.
The film went on to win several National Awards and remains one of Bollywood’s most critically acclaimed romantic dramas to date.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ileana is also embracing a new phase in life ,motherhood.
The actress welcomed her baby boy in 2023 and has since been open about the joys and challenges of being a new mum.
