Prahlad Kakkar talks about a campaign where Aamir Khan won the role over Shah Rukh Khan
Filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar, known for his extensive work in advertising, makes a surprising revelation.
The 75-year-old Indian director gave rare details about a memorable casting experience in his early career days, which involved Bollywood two big actors.
In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, he recalled the iconic commercial featuring Mahima Chaudhry and Aishwarya Rai.
The founder of Genesis Film Productions revealed that both SRK and Aamir Khan were considered for the ad, but he had a clear preference.
He said,“Aamir was charging around Rs 17 lakh, and Shah Rukh was only asking Rs 6 lakh at that time.”
“Shah Rukh needed the extra Rs 6 lakh to buy his house, Mannat, and asked if I could cover it. I told him he wasn’t right for the ad. I wanted someone who already had the image of an actor. Money wasn’t the concern," he continued.
Furthermore, he stated, "Then they went round the mulberry bush and then after about six months of negotiating Aamir said yes. He didn’t say yes to them, they said yes to him. He didn’t budge.”
Additionally, he noted that the whole episode remains a memorable moment, showing how one decision could have changed the course of Bollywood advertising history.
Meanwhile, looking back, it’s fascinating to think that the ad might have starred Shah Rukh years before he became the superstar the world knows today.
