Deepika Padukone’s fans shocked by 'Kalki 2898 AD' sequel update
Deepika Padukone’s inclusion in 'Kalki 2898 AD' addressed by makers amid speculation
Deepika Padukone starrer Kalki 2898 AD achieved considerable success at the box office, and fans had high expectations for its sequel as well.
However, a new update issued by the filmmakers has dampened the hopes of Deepika’s fans.
The Production house Vyjayanthi Movies has officially confirmed that the 39-year-old actress will not be returning for the sequel to this multilingual sci-fi fantasy inspired by Hindu mythology.
The announcement, made through the film’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, left many fans disheartened while sparking a buzz online.
The post reads, “This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways.
The note carried a sharper tone than expected, suggesting concerns over commitment.
It added, “Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works.”
Deepika played a key role in the first installment alongside Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani, and her absence in the sequel comes as a surprise.
The development follows the Ram-Leela star's earlier exit from Spirit, another film starring Prabhas.
Reports at the time claimed disagreements over work hours, profit sharing, and language requirements, with Triptii Dimri stepping in as her replacement.
The latest announcement has prompted fans to suggest alternatives, with names like Keerthy Suresh and Kalyani Priyadarshan gaining traction.
However, the reactions remain mixed, as some expressed relief at her exit.
While others warned director Nag Ashwin of backlash from Deepika’s supporters.
