A royal photographer has offered a closer look at a rare public display of affection between Prince William and Princess Kate.

On September 30, Matt Porteous shared a zoomed-in version of a photo first seen on the couple’s Instagram Stories earlier this month, capturing the Prince and Princess of Wales holding hands outside Windsor Castle ahead of the Sept. 17 state banquet honoring U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to the U.K.

According to People, the intimate image, taken from behind, showed the royal couple clasping hands in a moment that stood out against their usually formal public appearances. 

“One frame. Pure elegance, forever held in time,” Porteous captioned the photo on Instagram.

Known for documenting the Wales family’s most personal moments — from Christmas cards to birthdays with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — Porteous’ latest snap drew praise from royal insiders. 

Moreover, Kate’s longtime aide Natasha Archer, who is departing her royal role after 15 years, left heart emojis, while designer Phillipa Lepley, who created Kate’s gold and white banquet gown, called the image “magical.”
