Akshay Kumar urges schools to teach kids about cyber safety
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has highlighted the urgent need for cyber safety awarness after recalling a disturbing incident involving his daughter Nitara.
Speaking at a public event in Mumbai on Friday, the actor stressed that cybercrime is now growing faster than traditional street crime and must be addressed through education in schools.
The actor participated the incident while addressing the followership during the inaugural form of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the State Police Headquarters.
The incident
The 58-year-old star explained, “A few months ago my daughter was playing an online video game when she received series of messages from a stranger. The unknown person first asked her gender, and when she replied ‘female,’ the next message requested nude photos. Nitara immediately exited the game and informed her mother about the situation."
Akshay’s appeal
Highlighting the increasing menace of cyber exploitation, the Khiladi 786 actor appealed to Maharashtra's Chief Minister to implement a weekly "Cyber Period" for classes 7–10 students.
He said, "It would make children aware of and react to cyber threats, enabling them to explore the online world more safely."
Background
Kumar has always utilised public forums to create awareness on social concerns. In this event, his appeal targeted the development of organised awareness sessions in schools to protect children from increasing cyberattacks, such as inappropriate messages and online predators.
