Karan Johar opens up about equity deal with Adar Poonawalla
Karan Johar recently opened up about creating projects like Homebound following his 50% equity deal for Dharma Productions.
The 53-year-old filmmaker, known for his numerous projects under the Dharma Productions banner, revealed the reason behind his partnership with Adar Poonawalla.
During an exclusive conversation with Komal Nahta on his YouTube series Game Changers, he said, “I had many dreams that weren’t fulfilled due to funding constraints. I was very clear that I was okay selling 50% of equity because I wanted to expand and leave legacies within the company. Adar picked up the phone one day and said he was interested. I initially told him this isn’t your business, but he also wanted to expand.”
Later in the interview, the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director further spoke about his preferences for future projects.
Speaking to Nahta, he added, “I can’t say if I’ll make such films in the future. I will feel upset, but this deal is about growth.”
Notably, this partnership has launched a distribution arm and may also expand the company’s music division.
For the unversed, Johar previously made headlines for his candid comments about corporate booking.
