Ajay Devgn's upcoming Netflix movie 'Ramree', called off amid rising expenses
Siddhant Chaturvedi’s much anticipated Netflix project, Ramree, has reportedly been shelved due to major budget constraints.
The horror adventure movie produced under Ajay Devgn’s banner, was set to be a massive project but it has been cancelled ahead of shooting.
According to reports, Ramree was envisioned as a large-scale period film set in 1945, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mohit Raina in lead roles.
The project also marked writer Neha Sharma’s directorial debut, known for her work on The Zoya Factor and Tere Bin Laden.
A source close to the development told Mid-Day that the film’s scale became a challenge for an OTT release.
“Work on the film had been going on for over a year. Given the subject and period setting, it was an expensive project. Even though the platform heads were excited about the story, the financial risk was too high, so they decided not to move forward,” the insider revealed.
It was also added that the decision was part of the normal creative process, as “many ideas are explored but only a few take shape.”
Notably, Siddhant, who gained fame with Gully Boy, has been working across both big budget and off beat films.
