Nawazuddin Siddiqui has captivated audiences with powerful performances for years from Raman Raghav 2.0 to Gangs of Wasseypur and Sacred Games.

With the horror comedy Thamma, in which he co-stars with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna the actor is now stepping into lighter territory.

The fact that this will be the first film his kids can truly watch is what really sets this project apart for Nawaz, not just the change in genre.

In an interview with HT City, the actor disclosed that his son Yani and daughter Shora have never been able to watch his films because the majority of them were too intense or dark.

“Mujhe Thamma ke liye excitement isiliye bhi hai kyunki voh world jahaan pe humne shoot kiya hai, voh sirf humne dant kathaaon mein pehle padha tha. And plus, the kind of films I do, kids can’t watch them. Yeh pehli film hai jo mere bachche dekh paayenge!," laughed the 51-year-old actor.

Nawazuddin discussed his relationship with his daughter, who is presently a student in Dubai, in a different interview with The New Indian.

Described as courageous and truthful, he said, “I am more attached to my daughter. I yell at her sometimes, but she is very dear to me. She is a moohphat (straightforward). She criticises me. The best part is she is not in awe of me. She doesn’t care that her father is a great actor in two minutes she can criticise me. She keeps me grounded, and that is a good thing. She hasn’t even watched many of my movies."

On the other hand, the August 19, 2025, release of the Thamma teaser hinted at a blend of romance, mystery, and mayhem. Ayushmann and Rashmika are initially portrayed as lovers who were meant to be together but everything is altered by Nawazuddin's unsettling arrival.

The movie promises to be equally funny and suspenseful and the actor's presence will give the plot a sinister turn.
