Rashmika Mandanna's 'Thamma': early reviews suggest "expect the unexpected"

Rashmika Mandanna, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s upcoming film Thamma is set to hit theaters on 21 October as the year’s big Diwali attraction.

The film, part of Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe, has already received its first review, and early reactions suggest audiences can “expect the unexpected.”

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh was among the first to watch the movie.

Sharing his review on X (formerly Twitter),  he gave it four stars, calling it “a delicious cocktail of humour, supernatural, and romance.”

He wrote that the story takes “a completely uncharted path,” praising director Aditya Sarpotdar for once again striking the right balance after his previous hit Munjya.

Adarsh appreciated the performances of the cast, describing Ayushmann Khurrana’s acting as “pitch-perfect” and calling Rashmika Mandanna’s role one of the most challenging of her career.

He also highlighted strong performances by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal, though he mentioned that the film “dips in pace in parts of the second half.”

Another X user described the movie as "a perfect, high-energy Diwali gift".

He wrote, "It's a film that leaves you thoroughly entertained and completely satisfied. The direction is simply superb, showing a masterful understanding of how to captivate the audience and make the picture look good to everyone."

"Every single character's performance was top-notch. The entire star cast truly shines," he added.

The initial responses to Thamma appear highly positive, raising expectations for its box office performance.

According to Sacnilk, advance bookings have already crossed ₹3.09 crore, and with block seats, the total stands at ₹7.01 crore. The film is expected to open in double digits when it hits cinemas this week.
