Amazon Prime Video has secured the OTT rights for ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’. The Kannada version will start streaming from October 31
Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 will debut on OTT on October 31 following its successful theatrical run.
For the time being the original Kannada version of the movie as well as dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam will be available on the well-known streaming monster Amazon Prime Video.
A month later, the period drama's Hindi version will be made available online.
A source told, “The makers of Kantara: A Legend Chapter – 1 asked for Rs. 125 crores for the OTT rights, considering the buzz around the film. They approached Netflix and it agreed to offer Rs. 100 crores. Meanwhile Amazon Prime Video gave a better deal and offered Rs. 110 crores for the streaming rights. This is how the film has made its way on Prime Video.”
For a Kannada movie this is the second highest OTT deal ever. With its digital rights selling for more than Rs. 300 crores KGF-Chapter 2 (2022) continues to be the most popular.
Remarkably, Hombale Films which deserves recognition for putting Kannada cinema on the international scene with these immense successes supports both the KGF and Kantara franchises.
Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda and Rishab Shetty played key parts in Kantara.
It relates the tale of a carefree young man in a Karnataka forest who becomes a hero when a greedy landlord who is thought to be friendly with the villagers attempts to usurp the land in a treacherous manner.
The story revolves around the villagers' faith to Panjurli a demigod who guards the forest's population.
