During her October 31 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Keira Knightley revealed the creative method she uses to overcome memorization challenges caused by her dyslexia.

The actress, diagnosed with dyslexia at age six, explained that she often listens to recordings of her lines while simultaneously drawing detailed pictures.

“When I’m listening to them, I’m drawing the whole time,” Knightley said.

She added the drawings must be “quite detailed, otherwise the lines don’t go in my head.”

According to People, Knightley said the process helps reinforce the spoken words in her mind by engaging her visual and auditory senses together.

Moreover, she joked about starting by drawing “old men with wrinkles” before evolving into more varied imagery.

She also noted that her experience with dyslexia played a pivotal role in her career path.

She recalled that when school officials suggested the need for a “carrot” to motivate her academic performance, acting became that incentive.

“The school said, ‘Look, she can’t read at all… Do you know if there’s something she wants?’ … Well, she wants an agent,” Knightley said.

Furthermore, Knightley revealed that one of her daughters is also dyslexic and exhibits remarkable memory for reading material.
