“It Happens Here Too”: Paresh Rawal’s shocking claim about National Awards
Paresh Rawal revealed on Raj Shamani’s podcast that even the National Awards aren’t entirely free from lobbying or industry influence
The 1993 National Award winning actor Paresh Rawal has spoken out about the impact of lobbying on award circuits.
Even the respected National Awards aren't completely free from lobbying the actor acknowledged adding that the Oscars also engage in similar tactics.
Paresh recently spoke with Raj Shamani on his podcast about a number of topics related to his career.
He discussed lobbying tactics at the Oscars and National Awards during the discussion emphasising that he values praise from directors and writers much more than any award.
Talking about the credibility of film awards Paresh said, “I don’t even know much about awards. I’ll say that there might be a bit of lobbying in the National Awards, but not as much as in other awards. The rest don’t matter much. The National Award is reputed.”
He made his point by bringing out that lobbying isn't just done in India, saying, “Lobbying happens at Oscar awards too.”
He disclosed that networking and influence play a major role in the process.
"Large parties are also held as part of lobbying efforts," he continued.
He was then questioned about whether he wanted to receive any specific honours. The actor stated that he wants the director and his other creative partners to truly acknowledge him. He revealed that his desire ends there and that he doesn't want to pursue it further.
