In a touching moment that captured the true spirit of teamwork, Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues handed over her Best Fielding Medal to teammate Amanjot Kaur following India’s historic victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
The emotional ceremony took place under the dimmed lights of DY Patil Stadium, moments after the Women in Blue clinched their maiden title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final.
In a game-changing moment, Amanjot pulled off a stunning catch at deep midwicket to dismiss South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, who had just reached a gritty century.
The dismissal, off Deepti’s bowling, swung the momentum decisively towards India, silencing the crowd and igniting wild celebrations.
Fans and experts hailed it as the catch that “sealed the World Cup,” drawing comparisons to Suryakumar Yadav’s iconic grab in the men’s T20 final.
Fielding coach Munish Bali kicked off the post-match huddle by praising the team’s commitment throughout the tournament. He then called on Jemimah, the tournament’s top fielder based on the team’s leaderboard, to present the medal.
In a heartfelt speech, Jemimah lauded Amanjot’s contribution, saying:
“So girls, we talk about special moments, there are some moments in a game that change lives forever and that moment has changed our lives forever and that is today, Amanjot, First, starting with the run-out to set the tone in the chase and then you just didn’t catch that catch, you caught the World Cup.”
The team erupted in cheers as Amanjot accepted the medal, her eyes welling up amid confetti and hugs.
