The Delhi High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the detention of Major( Retd.).Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, brother of Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly, who has been held in the United Arab Emirates since September 2024.
During the hearing on November 3, 2025, Justice Sachin Datta directed the Ministry of External Affairs( MEA) and other concerned Union authorities to ensure that Major Jaitly receives proper legal assistance and that family is kept informed about the progress of his case.
Celina Jaitly appeared in person before the bench and highlighted the limited consular access provided to her brother since his detention on September 6, 2024. She told the court that communication with Vikrant had been restricted and that no detailed information regarding his well-being had been shared.
The bench issued a notice to the Union of India and instructed the appointment of a nodal officer to coordinate between the Jaitly family, the MEA, and the UAE authorities. The nodal officer will be responsible for updating the family on Major Jaitly’s condition, legal status and case developments.
The Delhi High Court has sought a detailed status report from the government on his legal situation before the scheduled hearing on December 4, 2025.
