Jonathan Bailey has been named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2025, marking a milestone in his career and drawing warm praise from his colleagues in film and theatre.

Bailey known for his standout roles in Bridgerton and the film adaptation of Wicked, expressed delight at earning the title, calling it “a huge honor” while admitting it felt “completely absurd.” 

During the live announcement on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he joked about keeping the news secret — revealing only his dog knew ahead of time.

Colleagues reacted enthusiastically to the news: actress Ariana Grande described Bailey as both “the sexiest man… in the universe” and “the kindest, most brilliant” person she knows; actor Jeff Goldblum offered hyper-bolic praise, calling Bailey the “sexiest man not only on this planet, but in the solar system, in the universe, and any multiverse”; while ﹙actress﹚ Cynthia Erivo reflected: “Now the world knows what I’ve known all along.”

According to People, the accolade also carries significance beyond fandom: Bailey is the first openly gay man to receive the title, a recognition that has been widely noted in media coverage.
