Govinda issues apology after wife’s controversial comments
Govinda addresses his wife Sunita Ahuja’s remarks about their family priest in a video statement
Govinda, who ruled the silver screen through the ’90s, has broken his silence and issued an apology after his wife Sunita Ahuja’s remarks about their family priest Pandit Mukesh Shukla drew backlash.
The 60-year-old actor made it clear that he did not share the same sentiments and extended his regret over the comments.
In a video statement shared on November 4, the Partner star said, "My wife made disparaging remarks against Pandit Mukesh Shukla on the podcast and I condemn them.
My deepest apologies... Pandit Mukesh Shukla and his family have been with me in tough times, and I respect him a lot."
The apology came after Sunita’s appearance on Paras Chhabra’s YouTube channel, where she made several candid remarks about the priest.
"We also have one in our house, Govinda’s pandit (priest). He is also like this only get pujas (prayers) done, give Rs 2 lakhs.
I tell him that you should pray on your own, unka karaaya hua puja paath kuch kaam nahi aane wala hai (their rituals are not going to work for you)," she said.
She continued, "God will accept the prayers that you do on your own. I don’t believe in all this. Even if I donate or do any good deed, I do it with my own hands for my karma. Darne wala darr jaata hai."
Moreover, the conversation later touched upon rumours surrounding the actor’s personal life, to which Sunita said she would not believe any allegations without evidence.
For the unversed, the couple, who have been married for over three decades, had earlier dismissed reports of their separation by calling them “baseless.”
Notably, he is now gearing up for a comeback with three upcoming films Len Den: It’s All About Business, Bayan Haath Ka Khel and Pinky Darling.
The actor mentioned these projects during his appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix.
