The sequel to Sridevi’s last and much-loved film, Mom, is now officially in the works.

According to the latest report about the project, Karishma Tanna joins the cast alongside the late actress’s daughter Khushi Kapoor.

Produced by Boney Kapoor, the new film isn’t directly connected to the story of the 2017 movie. Instead, it takes the spirit and emotions of the original and reimagines them in a new setting.

A source from the team shared that Mom 2 is “emotionally rich and modern, and Tanna’s depth and Khushi’s fresh energy complement each other well.”

Reportedly, the 41-year-old, who earned praise for Netflix TV series Scoop, is set to play a role that balances strength with vulnerability. 

This also marks the directorial debut of writer Girish Kohli, known for Kesari and HIT: The First Case.

Industry insiders say that the pairing of Khushi and Tanna has already caught people’s attention, and fans are eager to see how the story unfolds.

Shooting for this film has already begun, and more details about the plot and release will be shared soon.

It's pertinent to note, Mom (2017) followed the story of Devki Sabarwal (Sridevi), a mother who seeks justice after her stepdaughter (Arya), played by Pakistani actress Sajal Ali, is sexually assaulted.

The film also featured Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna, and Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui in key roles.
