Yami Gautam, Emraan Hashmi’s 'Haq': First review out

Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film Haq has become the centre of attention for various reasons.

This film revolves around the story of Shah Bano Begum, a Muslim woman who, after getting a divorce, filed a criminal suit in the Supreme Court of India and won the right to alimony from her ex-husband.

Just days before its theatrical release, this courtroom drama is actually embroiled in legal matters as the legal heirs of Shah Bano Begum have approached the Indore High Court, seeking an immediate stay on the release of the film.

They also accused filmmakers of not obtaining any legal authorisation and offending the sentiments of the Muslim community.

The makers, at the start of the film, have given a disclaimer that even though it is inspired by true events, cinematic liberties have been taken, but the timeline has changed, as Shah Bano was in her sixties when she approached the court, but Yemi (Shazia) portrays a young woman.

Although the petition is pending before the court, the film is all set to release on November 7, and its first review is also out.

According to the first impression of the film, “The 36-year-old actress has given her career's best performance in the film. There's a monologue of Yami in the film, and it is so impactful that once it got over, there was a pin-drop silence in the theatre.”

On the other hand, “Emraan Hashmi as Abbas impresses us a lot. He is so good that after a point, you will start hating him. In the climax, he also gets a monologue and the actor has nailed it.”

Movie critic Taran Adarsh described Haq as "Powerful."

He wrote in his detailed review, "Haq isn't just a courtroom drama – it's about conscience, courage, and confronting uncomfortable truths head-on... It's a story that needs to be told."

He added, "The verbal duels between #Emraan and #Yami are electric – with dialogues that echo like thunder and arguments that cut deep. Both deserve major accolades and awards for their powerhouse portrayals."

Overall, critics called  Haq a hard-hitting, emotional film featuring some amazing performances and a treat for Yami Gautam's fans.
