The football community is mourning the sudden loss of former NFL linebacker and defensive end Keith Browner Sr., who passed away on Tuesday morning in San Leandro, California, at the age of 63.
Browner Sr., known for his formidable play at the University of Southern California (USC) before a career in the NFL, reportedly died after collapsing unexpectedly at his home.
According to his son, Keith Browner Jr., the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer had been experiencing an evening of health issues.
Speaking to the media, Browner Jr. described the shocking nature of his father’s final hour. On Monday night, Browner Sr. began experiencing stomach problems, vomiting and severe fatigue.
The tragedy struck as he was preparing to leave for medical care on Tuesday. His son explained the sudden collapse:
“He curled over to the side of the chair and collapsed to the floor next to his girlfriend.”
While the official cause of death has yet to be confirmed by authorities, the suddenness and symptoms reportedly suggest a suspected heart attack.
Keith Browner Jr. shared his final conversation with his father:
“I spoke with him Monday night. He was feeling sick, tired and told me he would go to the hospital Tuesday morning.”
The unexpected passing has left his family and former teammates deeply saddened.
