Jennifer Lawrence says that as an artist she is seeking a 'complicated recalibration' of her public voice
Jennifer Lawrence says she is no longer comfortable discussing politics publicly, particularly regarding former President Donald Trump, citing concerns that celebrity statements can deepen national divisions.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Lawrence reflected on her previous vocal critiques of Trump’s administration and explained why she has chosen to step back.
“The first Trump administration was so wild … I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off,” she said.
She added that, “election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for,” and questioned the value of continuing to voice opinions she believes may add “fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”
According to Lawrence, the decision is part of a broader “complicated recalibration” of her public persona and artistic priorities.
As per Daily Mail, she emphasized her desire to protect her craft from being overshadowed by political controversy and said she prefers to channel her activism through her production company’s work rather than direct commentary.
Though she maintains her personal political views and remains engaged in voter participation, Lawrence noted she wants to ensure any public statement she makes contributes positively, rather than increasing societal discord.
