The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) franchise has achieved a box office milestone of ₹1500 crore thanks to the success of Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's vampire comedy Thamma. Munjya, Bhediya and Stree 2 are also part of the franchise which started with Stree.

The films' production company Maddock Films announced the accomplishment on social media over the weekend.

The words "₹1500 crore" were displayed on a poster that included all the franchise's main characters from Varun Dhawan and Ayushmann Khurrana to Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao.

The caption that went with it mentioned the films and said, “Chanderi se chaand tak, Maddock Horror Comedy Universe ka yeh safar rahega yaadgaar hamesha. Here’s to 1500 crore moments of love and gratitude. #Thamma is running successfully in cinemas now. Book your tickets.”

The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is now the fourth highest-grossing Indian film franchise after surpassing the ₹1500-crore milestone.

Since Thamma's release last month, it has surpassed both the KGF film series (₹1420 crore) and Rohit Shetty's Cop Universe (₹1411 crore). It is still far from the top though which is currently held by the YRF Spy Universe, which has made over ₹3000 crore at the box office.

Stree 2, which made over ₹870 crore worldwide last year, is the most successful movie in the MHCU.

Thamma is one of three films that have made over ₹100 crore globally. The only failure in the franchise's history is Bhediya, the critically acclaimed film starring Varun and Kriti that only brought in ₹95 crore at the box office.

After 20 days at the box office Thamma has already made over ₹180 crore and is on track to reach the ₹200 crore milestone.
