New world record! Akash Kumar Choudhary smashes 11-ball fastest fifty in Ranji Trophy
Akash Kumar’s incredible fifty was powered by eight consecutive sixes
Cricketing history was rewritten on Sunday during a Ranji Trophy match in Surat, as Meghalaya’s Akash Kumar Choudhary, primarily a fast-bowler, delivered one of the most explosive batting performances ever seen in First-Class cricket.
The 25-year-old achieved two massive world records in his short stunning innings against Arunachal Pradesh.
He smashed the fastest-ever First-Class fifty, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls. This remarkable feat broke the long-standing record of 12 balls set by England’s Wayne White in 2012.
Choudhary’s incredible fifty was powered by an unprecedented sequence of eight consecutive sixes.
Coming in to bat at number eight, he launched an unrelenting assault, hitting left-arm spinner Limar Dabi for six sixes in one over and then clearing the rope with the next two balls he faced.
This made him the first player in First-Class cricket history to hit eight sixes in a row. He also joined an elite group, including the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers and Ravi Shastri, as only the third player to strike six sixes in a single over in the format.
Speaking after the game, Akash Choudhary credited his aggressive approach to his coach’s instructions, stating:
It was a lucky day for me that I got good shots. My intentions are always right. I always give 100% in cricket. We had to declare quickly, that’s why the coach messaged us to go and attack, so that’s why I was able to play openly.
Choudhary remained unbeaten on 50 runs off just 14 balls at which point Meghalaya declared their first innings at a huge total of 628 for six. His whirlwind knocks have firmly etched his name into the global cricketing record books.
