In a recent interview discussing his new documentary Being Eddie, Eddie Murphy revealed that a surprising comment from Pauly Shore prompted him to stop using Percocet.

Murphy — who said he only ever “smoked weed” once he turned 30 — admitted he tried Percocet in his twenties after a dental procedure, but the experience didn’t sit well with him.

The turning point reportedly came one night at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

 According to Murphy, Shore remarked that he didn’t “even look like” himself that evening. 

When Shore added he looked like “some other dude,” Murphy said it “clicked” — and he decided immediately: “I’m not fucking with this no more.”

According to Daily Mail, Murphy added that even when surrounded by peers who succumbed to hard drugs, including offers from other entertainers in the 1980s, he maintained he was never curious.

 “I don’t drink. I don’t smoke cigarettes… I’ve never even tried cocaine or touched cocaine,” he insisted.

Furthermore, the remarks draw fresh attention to Murphy’s personal life and his steadfast decision to stay away from hard substances — despite fame, peer pressure, and Hollywood’s notorious nightlife.
