'Ba***ds of Bollywood' gives befitting response to Sameer Wankhede's defamation suit
Shah Rukh Khan's production house shuts down defamation noise with bold response
Ba***ds of Bollywood has landed in trouble after Sameer Wankhede slapped the Netflix series with a defamation suit.
The Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, who demanded an injunction against the franchise, has finally received a befitting response from Red Chillies Entertainment.
The production house confirmed that the web series is merely “a work of situational satire” and does not defame Wankhede.
Referring to the defamation suit as “wholly misconceived, untenable in law, and devoid of merit,” Shah Rukh Khan’s production company shut down the noise surrounding the allegations once and for all.
Red Chillies Entertainment argued, “Being a work of satire, all characters in the said series are deliberately portrayed with exaggerated traits and mannerisms to elicit humor and highlight societal or situational absurdities.”
In a written response to the Delhi High Court, it added, “Satire, by its very nature, relies on overstatement, caricature, and hyperbole, and is not intended to convey factual assertions about any real individual. Such exaggeration is a recognized and protected form of expression, designed to entertain, provoke thought, and critique, and cannot, by itself, constitute defamation.”
In addition, the production house pointed to Wankhede’s “unblemished record,” citing the CBI’s FIR filed in May 2023 for alleged corruption against him.
