Elle and Dakota Fanning are teaming up professionally for the first time on screen in the upcoming World War II drama The Nightingale, based on the best-selling novel by Kristin Hannah.
In the film, Dakota will portray Vianne, while Elle will take on the role of her sister Isabelle — a portrayal many fans and critics are calling a “dream come true,” given that this is the first time the sisters will act together as two separate characters rather than different-age versions of the same character.
Beyond acting, the Fannings are also co-producing the project under their shared production banner, Lewellen Pictures, a company they founded in 2021, as per People.
Though both admit to being a bit nervous — it’s a significant milestone — they say their longtime bond and mutual respect makes this collaboration feel natural.
Elle has said that while the sisters will behave professionally on set, “our real-life bond will inevitably contribute to our on-screen dynamic.”
The Nightingale is currently slated for release in February 2027.
