Director Rian Johnson says Meryl Streep is at the top of his wish list for a future 'Knives Out' film
Rian Johnson, the creator of the Knives Out film series, has publicly named Meryl Streep as his top choice for a potential role in a future installment of the hit murder-mystery franchise.
Johnson — who recently wrapped the third entry, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery — told IndieWire that Streep is “exactly the kind of actor” he would love to have on board.
“If you’re reading this, Meryl Streep, I feel like you’d slot into a murder mystery very well,” he said with admiration.
He added, with a bit of humor, that given how she recently appeared on a major comedy show, anything is possible, “If [the show’s producer] Lorne Michaels can get her to do that, goddamn, so can we.”
Though no casting deal is sealed, the remark has sparked excitement among fans curious to see how Streep’s renowned dramatic range might complement the series’ tone, as per People.
As of now, the franchise’s future remains open, with no official confirmation of a fourth film, but Johnson’s public casting wish gives pause for speculation.
If cast, Streep would join returning lead Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, continuing the series’ tradition of combining a sharp ensemble cast with a new mystery in each film.
