Kylian Mbappe awarded massive $70m payout in PSG labor court ruling

The long-running financial war between Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain reached a turning point this week. A Paris labor court ordered the French champions to pay their former striker approximately $70,6 million.

The sum covers three months of unpaid salary from the end of the 2023-24 season along with an “ethics bonus” and a significant signing bonus.

The dispute began after Mbappe left PSG for Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. PSG had withheld the payments arguing that Mbappe had made a “gentleman’s agreement” in 2023 to waive the money if he left for free ensuring the club wouldn’t lose out financially.

However, the court found no written evidence of such an agreement and ruled that labor laws must be upheld regardless of the industry.

While the court sided with Mbappe on the wages, it did not grant his full request for over $300 million which included claims for “moral harassment” and contract reclassification.

Similarly, the court threw out PSG’s massive $470 million counter-claim against the player. PSG has acknowledged the ruling but stated they “reserve the right to appeal,” meaning this high-stakes legal saga may not be fully over.
