Star Wars leadership shifts as Kathleen Kennedy waives president role

Big changes are coming to the Star Wars franchise as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy prepares to waive from the role.

Reports from Puck News reveal that Kennedy will be stepping down as president of Lucasfilm, which will be taken over by the longtime Star Wars creative Dave Filoni to take the reins.

Filoni, currently the franchise’s chief creative officer, will lead the storytelling side of Star Wars, while Lynwen Brennan, Lucasfilm’s president and general manager of business, will handle the financial and operational aspects.

Kennedy’s influence on Hollywood spans decades. She co-founded Amblin Entertainment with Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall and produced iconic films like E.T. and Jurassic Park.

After joining Lucasfilm in 2012 following Disney’s acquisition, she oversaw the expansion of the Star Wars universe, including the sequel trilogy: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

Her tenure, however, wasn’t without controversy.

Fans frequently criticised her creative choices, sparking debates across the fandom. When asked about retirement rumors at SWCJ 2025, Kennedy insisted, “I’m not retired. I’m not going anywhere.”

It remains unclear whether Kennedy will completely step away from Lucasfilm or continue as a producer on upcoming Star Wars projects.

Disney is expected to make an official announcement soon, confirming a new era for the beloved franchise.
