Gwyneth Paltrow faces major career blow after Chris Martin divorce
‘Iron Man’ star and Coldplay frontman announced their divorce in 2014 after nearly 11 years of marriage
Gwyneth Paltrow recently revealed she faced humiliating career blow after her split from Chris Martin.
The Iron Man star reflected on the setback she had to bear after the end of her marriage to the Coldplay frontman while speaking on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast on January 6.
“I was supposed to do a movie at one point and it was like right after the conscious uncoupling thing with Chris, and there was a lot of harsh stuff in the press,” said the 53-year-old.
Paltrow noted, “I think the distributor was like, this might be too hot to touch.”
However, the Great Expectations actress added, “That was great because I was getting a divorce and then I got fired off. So, it was so awesome.”
For those unversed, Paltrow made headlines in 2014 after she announced her divorce from Martin back in 2014.
At the time, the Shallow Hal actress used a phrase “consciously uncouple” about her split from the musician ex-husband.
Now, after over a decade, Paltrow got to know why some people had a strong negative reaction to their use of the term.
“Say you had had a really nasty divorce, or your parents had had a really nasty divorce. And then you hear this idea that like, it doesn't have to be done this way,” she explained.
The Marty Supreme actress noted, “I think the implicit learning is like, 'Oh, Like, they're saying I did something wrong.’”
“That makes sense to me, like, 'Oh no, is the inference that I mess someone up.' Like, that's not a nice thing to contemplate. So, I do understand why it was so personal for people,” added Paltrow, who shares two kids with former husband Martin.
