The much-anticipated Tamil film Jana Nayagan, starring Thalapathy Vijay, is likely facing a delay just days ahead of its planned Pongal release.

The film was officially announced for a January 9, 2026, release, and bookings opened last week. However, the project is yet to receive censor certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), raising uncertainty around its release plans.

According to a report by Lets Cinema, Vijay’s final film has been postponed from its original release date due to pending censor clearance.

The delay is reportedly linked to judicial proceedings connected to the certification process, with a final verdict expected only on January 9, the same day the film was set to hit theatres.

With proceedings still underway, a postponement now appears likely, though the makers have not issued any official confirmation so far.

Notably, Jana Nayagan was initially expected to release during Diwali 2025 before being rescheduled for Pongal 2026, making this the second shift in its release timeline.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is billed as Thalapathy Vijay’s final cinematic outing.

The film centres on Vetri Kondan, a former police officer and convict who adopts a young girl, Viji, and commits himself to raising her as a strong, independent woman, even encouraging her to join the military despite her fear of violence.
