Just days before it was meant to hit cinemas, Jana Nayagan has been pushed off the release calendar,  a blow to fans who have been counting days to what is widely seen as Thalapathy Vijay’s final film.

The film, titled Jana Neta in Hindi, was scheduled to arrive in cinemas on January 9, 2026, and advance bookings had already opened.

But the makers, KVN Productions, have now confirmed that the release has been postponed as the film is yet to receive clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification.

In an official statement shared on social media, the production house said: “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control."

The statement added, "We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us… The new release date will be announced at the earliest.”

This is the second time the film’s release has been pushed back. It was originally expected to hit theatres during Diwali 2025 before being moved to the Pongal 2026 window.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan has drawn attention not just for its scale but for what it represents in Vijay’s career. The film is being promoted as his last appearance on the big screen.

The story follows Vetri Kondan, a former police officer and convict who adopts a young girl and raises her to be fearless and independent, even urging her to join the military.
