Kannada film star Yash marked his 40th birthday on 8 January in a quieter way than many fans had hoped for.

Once known for drawing crowds that could rival political rallies, the 40-year-old actor again chose to stay away from a public birthday meet, a decision shaped by hard lessons from the past.

For years, the Masterpiece star’s birthday in Bengaluru was a spectacle. Nearly five lakh fans would travel from across southern India, filling streets just to catch a glimpse of the man who rose from television roles to pan-Indian stardom.

The celebrations were loud, emotional and often overwhelming.

But 2018 changed everything. After the death of veteran actor and mentor Ambareesh, the Googly actor announced he would stop celebrating his birthday.

Around the same time, a tragic incident shook him deeply when a distraught fan set himself on fire outside his home and later died, wishing the actor a happy birthday.

Since then, Yash has kept his distance from organised fan meets.

A source close to him said, “He loves his fans. But his conscience cannot take any mishap, especially after what happened at Vijay’s political rally in Karur.”

This year, the K.G.F. star addressed fans directly, writing: “To my dearest fans, I honestly am deeply aware of how you have been waiting to meet me over the last few years. Trust me, I have been longing to see you all just as much. I truly wanted to make it happen this year on my birthday, but I am fully immersed in finishing the film to make sure it is ready for you in theatres on March 19th 2026."

He added, "Because of this, I won’t be able to meet you in person just yet. Even though we couldn’t make it happen now, I promise to make it up to you. We will meet in a much bigger way, very soon. In the meantime, I will be personally looking through all your wishes and cherishing every bit of the love you send."

However, his birthday brought a gift for fans as the teaser of his upcoming Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups dropped today, offering a silhouette full of mystery and suspense. The film is due in cinemas on 19 March 2026.
