Prashant Tamang a singer and actor who got his fame through winning the Indian Idol Season 3 died on Sunday at his home in New Delhi. He was 43 years old and it was said that he had a stroke.

The unexpected demise of the Gorkha artist and his amazing voice left the entire world of music and the Gorkha community in shock was the reaction of Raju Bista, BJP MP from Darjeeling and the party's national spokesperson.

He said that Tamang's victory in Indian Idol 2007 was an occasion of great pride for all Gorkhas in India and also played a significant role in introducing Nepali music to the national audience.

Bista further stated that the whole experience of Tamang's participation in the reality show was like a unifying factor for the entire region consisting of Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars, Sikkim and even the Northeast besides striking a chord with Gorkhas living outside India.

He also mentioned that Tamang was a member of the West Bengal Police Orchestra when he took part in the competition.

Bista, who termed Tamang's death an irreplaceable loss, indicated that Indian music, film and above all the Gorkhali community had to bid farewell to an artist who was gifted and loved but had been in the limelight only for a short period.

The club had written, “Get ready for an electrifying performance, amazing vibes, and a night to remember!” inviting fans to watch him perform on December 27, 2025. After his performance, the club also posted a video sharing a glimpse of it all with fans. “Full of excitement, a powerful crowd, and unbeatable vibes,” is how they described what would be one of the last times Prashant performed.
