Guy Vernon Moon, best known as the Emmy-nominated composer behind Nickelodeon’s hit animated series The Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom, has died at the age of 63.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the composer was killed in a car crash on Saturday, January 10.

A report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that Moon passed away on Thursday, January 8, after suffering traumatic injuries in a traffic collision in Los Angeles.

In an emotional statement shared on Facebook, Moon’s family announced the news of his passing.

“We are overcome with grief to announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, Guy Moon,” the statement read. “He was killed on Thursday morning in a traffic collision.”

They continued, “We feel singularly blessed to have been able to call him dad and husband. As we stand together at the base of what feels like an insurmountable grief, we are emboldened to grieve him with honor and courage, using the tools he equipped us with throughout his beautiful life.”

The family also noted that Moon “left an unmistakable legacy and will be profoundly missed by us, his family, and the countless others whose lives he impacted.”

Concluding the statement, the family shared plans to honour his life, including a celebration on his birthday, February 7, in Los Angeles, with another planned later in his hometown of Wisconsin.

Guy Vernon Moon was born on February 7, 1962, and worked on animated shows that remain successful to this day.
