Matthew McConaughey has recently made major legal move against artificial-intelligence deepfakes.

According to a report published by The Wall Street Journal, the Interstellar star reveals he has eight trademark applications approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office over the last few months.

Matthew’s legal team explain he “trademarked” himself in a bid to stop AI apps or users from simulating his voice or likeness without permission.

It is pertinent to mention that the trademarks include “a seven-second clip of the actor standing on a porch, a three-second clip of him sitting in front of a Christmas tree, and audio of him saying his famous line ‘Alright, alright, alright’ from the 1993 movie Dazed and Confused”.

“My team and I want to know that when my voice or likeness is ever used, it’s because I approved and signed off on it,” states the 56-year-old actor in a statement to WSJ.

Matthew adds, “We want to create a clear perimeter around ownership with consent and attribution the norm in an AI world.”
