Rob Reiner, the acclaimed director of The Princess Bride, has been remembered fondly by the film’s star Cary Elwes, who recently reflected on their close bond.

In a conversation with CNN, the 63-year-old English actor revealed one of the sweetest memories he shared with the filmmaker and spoke about how his passing has impacted him.

"It was a terrible shock to us. We also became very close to Rob and his wife Michelle and his family. It’s still devastating. I’m still trying to process," Elwes said.

He grew close to Reiner during the production of the 1987 family comedy, and their bond strengthened over the years, leaving him deeply affected by the loss.

Reflecting on the time he spent with the When Harry Met Sally... director, the Saw actor added, "One of my favourite memories with Rob was that he used to say to me often, 'You go—remember to have fun.' That was just the essence of who he was. He was all about joy."

"Not only a talented artist, but a sweet guy and very gentle," Elwes recalled.

Toward the end of the chat, he admitted that he misses Reiner dearly and said he had learned so much from him.
